You made it through the questions and now the interviewer asks you, "Any questions for us?".
You could of course ask the standard kind of questions, "what do you like most about the role", or be strategic and really set yourself apart.
Here are 4 questions to ask and why I love them.
1. What does a top performer look like in this role in your opinion?
Why I love it: Well, if you get the job then in the first 3 months focus on doing the things they value and it allows you to meet their expectations far easier.
2. If you had your way or a magic wand, what would you change about the team, department or company?
Why I love it: This question will give you great insight in to what is the most painful thing they experience now. They might say something about the work, the culture or employees. It's a great open ended question.
3. What is keeping you up at night?
Why I love it: This is a fun way to ask them literally what part of their process, department or strategic vision they are charged with fixing or making better. Imagine being in an interview to engage the boss or your future team around how you could add value to a pain point. All the other candidates are talking about themselves and you're talking about your value to them.
4. What is your focus for growth in the next 1 - 3 years?
Why I love it: I use it because when I get the job, I will only take on extra projects or work related to the strategic vision, where possible.
Now, these questions don't only have to be used for interviews, try them out next at your quarterly check in with your boss!
You'd be surprised at the answers and can learn how to align yourself much better.
