Public vs. Private Universities

Is your school private or public? Here are a few key distinctions:

Public universities receive funding from the government. Private universities,

on the other hand, are funded by large endowments or private sources.

Public universities offer ‘in-state’ tuition. ‘In-state’ tuition allows students the

opportunity to attend public institutions at a lower cost than students who

are not residents of the state.

International students may be able to take advantage of ‘in-state’ tuition after residing in the same state as their college after one year of study.

Private universities may tend to be more expensive and often appear higher

on student rankings compared with public universities. However, there are a

tremendous number of reputable public universities abroad!
